As an Altierus Career College HVAC refrigeration Air conditioning Technician entry level, you’ll have the chance to maintain commercial and industrial refrigeration systems which people rely on in their everyday lives.

For an additional 3 months of coursework, you can train to become an HVAC technician through our HVAC program.

This program is HVAC Excellence accredited by the Esco Group, which is an independent third-party which ensures program training prepares students with the skills to meet HVACR industry standards.

Altierus Career College Flexible Blended Learning to Help Balance Life and School

Many of our programs feature a blend of online and on-campus learning. This is to help make going to school work with your busy schedule. Learn on your own time online and then make the most of your time with your instructor on campus doing hands-on work and asking questions instead of listening to lectures.
You’ll receive certification preparation for the EPA 608 Universal Certification, as well as OSHA 10-hour Basic Safety Orientation, NCCER Credentials, and Universal R410A.

Get hands-on training with instructors with real-world experience installing, repairing, and maintaining real HVAC refrigeration equipment.

Lab equipment includes professional tools such as:

  • Commercial Ice Machine
  • Commercial Walk-in Refrigeration
  • Rack Compressor System
  • Low-Temperature Condenser

The majority of HVACR technicians work full time. Evening or weekend shifts may be required, and HVACR technicians often work overtime or irregular hours during peak heating and cooling seasons.

A Trade Apprenticeship

A trade apprenticeship training typically lasts three to five years. Most apprenticeship programs require 150 to 250 hours of classroom study and around 2,000 hours of paid supervised training every year. Apprentices who have completed an accredited certificate or associate degree program can reduce the length of their apprenticeships training. Apprentices are often assigned to work with experienced tradesmen across a broad range of tasks, so they are prepared to work in manufacturing, the construction industry or as private tradesmen after completing the apprenticeship training. Trade apprentices are usually paid around half the wages of journeyman.

Working as a Journeyman

Journeymen are experienced professionals at their trade. With four-plus years of education and experience, they have learned all of the basics of the profession and are likely developing expertise in one or more specialty areas.
